U.S. ARMY SOLDIERS IN SOUTH KOREA DUKE IT OUT...

IN BUDWEISER BOXING TOURNAMENT

DONGDOOCHUN-CITY, SOUTH KOREA  Budweiser landed a knockout punch with U.S. Army soldiers during the recently held Budweiser 2001 Eighth United States Army Boxing Championship.  The “King of Beers” sponsored the event, where the best of the best Army boxers stationed in South Korea competed in the ring for the honor of being crowned boxing champion of their weight class.

Korea
Within the US Military, boxing is probably the biggest spectator sport in Korea. Eighth US Army, Morale and Recreation (MWR) offers four invitational boxing tournaments, area championships and the Eighth Army boxing championships each year. These events are held at military installations in the 2nd Infantry Division area located between Seoul and the DMZ separating the two Korea's.
There has always been a packed house, standing room only for the EUSA Boxing Championships held in early December each year. Hanson Field House at Camp Casey is filled with enthusiastic sports fans both evenings for this two day event.
For the last five years, Anheuser-Busch has signed on as the corporate sponsor for each of these events, providing both cash sponsorship and boxing related prize-giveaways.
Budweiser has been a major Eighth Army MWR corporate sponsor for several years. The relationship between the two has been a win-win opportunity for both organizations.
