THE
NEW JAGUAR XK, WINNER OF THE WHAT CAR? 'MOST EXCITING CAR TO
BE LAUNCHED IN 2006' AWARD
The
new Jaguar XK has picked up a major reader award as 'The Most
Exciting Car to be Launched in 2006' at the prestigious What
Car? Car of the Year Awards, held in London. Thousands of
readers of www.whatcar.com and the woman's glossy magazine Eve
voted the new XK top of 10 cars not yet on sale, but due to be
launched in 2006.
Steve
Fowler, Group Editor of What Car? magazine, commented:
"This clearly demonstrates the affection that the British
public still has for the brand and the excitement when a new
Jaguar sports car is around the corner. We're looking forward
to giving our own verdict on the car in the coming weeks and
maybe this is a good indication for the 'What Car? Car of the
Year in 2007."
Bibiana
Boerio, Managing Director of Jaguar Cars, said: "We are
delighted with the very positive reaction the XK is creating
already in advance of its launch. We've already had plenty of
advanced orders and we're now looking forward to building on
this when the XK goes on sale in the Spring."
The
new XK goes on sale from mid March and customers can now place
orders for the new model at dealers, with Military prices
starting from $67,400 for the Coupe and $72,800 for the
convertible.
The
global public debut of the new XK coupe took place at the
Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2005 and the XK Convertible
made its public debut at the NAIAS Detroit Motor Show earlier
this month. Even before going on sale the new XK has already
been awarded the Engineering and Technology Award at the
prestigious Prince Michael International Road Safety Awards.
It was recognized for an all-new industry-leading feature –
the pedestrian deployable bonnet.
JAGUAR XJ VOTED BEST LARGE
EXECUTIVE CAR AT THE AUTO EXPRESS USED CAR HONORS 2006
The
Jaguar XJ has picked up the award for the 'Best Large
Executive Car' at the Auto Express Used Car Honors 2006,
announced in the Auto Express weekly magazine.
A
panel of experts from Auto Express judged the entire
second-hand market to reveal the best used models that money
can buy, taking into consideration everything from resale
values, reliability, specification and availability.
The
Jaguar XJ, which first hit new car showrooms in 2003, was
chosen because of its excellent value, great driving dynamics
and strong image. Another winning factor was the comparatively
low running costs due to the lightweight, all-alloy
construction of the XJ.
Pete
Holden, XJ Vehicle Office Manager at Jaguar Cars said:
"It is a great honor to receive this award. The
comfortable interior, superior levels of refinement and high
standard of equipment make the XJ comfortable and luxurious
for the driver when they want it to be, yet the lightweight
alloy body enables agile dynamics, powerful performance and
outstanding fuel economy."
JAGUAR
'WORLD FIRST' SAFETY ACKNOWLEDGED
The
all-new Jaguar XK was awarded the Engineering and Technology
Award at the prestigious Prince Michael International Road
Safety Awards in London.
The
Prince Michael International Road Safety Awards recognize
outstanding innovation or achievement and each year the judges
make one Technology Award for road-based or vehicle based
innovation that is considered to have significant merit. This
year, Jaguar has been recognized for its outstanding safety
innovation in the new XK sports car. This is an all-new,
industry-leading feature – the pedestrian deployable bonnet.
Jaguar
is one of the first manufacturers to meet Phase One of new
European safety legislation using an active deployable bonnet
system. The new standards are designed to help mitigate the
severity of injuries to pedestrians in the event of a
collision with a car. Legislation in the European market
requires manufacturers to commit to a two-phase introduction
of a range of active and passive safety improvements on all
new cars to improve the protection of pedestrian in the case
of an accident.
In
the unfortunate event of a pedestrian impact, the deployable
bonnet on the new XK automatically 'pops' up a few inches, to
increase space between the engine and the bonnet. This helps
to isolate the pedestrian from hard points in the engine
compartment – and takes place in less than a tenth of the
time it takes to blink an eye. An advanced sensing system is
mounted in the front bumper to help discriminate between a
pedestrian collision and any other possible front-end
collisions.

Volvo cars with Bluetooth® and a mobile telephone
• Automatic connection to the car’s
loudspeaker system
• The system recognizes up to four different telephones
• Easy to switch between hands-free and telephone
• Voice dialing promotes traffic safety
It
is now possible to connect a Bluetooth-capable mobile

totally wirelessly. With the help of the new accessory Volvo
Hands-free with Bluetooth®, a mobile telephone becomes an
integrated hands-free system with voice dialing.
Volvo
Hands-free with Bluetooth® can be fitted in most late-model
Volvo cars. The system consists of an electronic control
module, a module with function buttons, a dedicated microphone
located near the rear-view mirror, and the necessary wiring. The
mobile telephone used must be Bluetooth-capable. Once a paired
link has been set up with the car’s Bluetooth module,
the telephone is recognized and connected automatically when
the owner enters the car. Story

Models Best in Interior Air Quality According to New Study
An independent survey carried out by the Ecology Center in
Detroit shows that the interiors of Volvo’s cars emit lower
levels of toxic substances than other car makes.
The Ecology Center recently
presented a study (Toxic at Any Speed: Chemicals in Cars &
the Need for Safe Alternatives) of the toxic chemicals used in
building car interiors. Flame retardant PBDE and phthalates,
whose main use is as a softener in plastics, were included in
the study. These chemical substances can migrate from plastics
and textiles, particularly at high temperatures. The car’s
occupants may thus be exposed to these substances, for
instance through the respiratory system. Certain types of
phthalates and flame retardants can for instance promote
genetic mutations and can subject car occupants to health
hazards. The survey reveals that the concentrations of PBDE in
dust and on the windscreen are up to five times higher than in
the homes of most people, and since many people today spend a
lot of time in their cars, car interiors thus have a
significant effect on human health. For

Seats Get Top Scores in 2006 Thatcham Whiplash Tests
Once again, Volvo has
achieved top scores in the latest, 2006 model year new car
whiplash ratings by the UK's Motor Insurance Repair Research
Centre in Thatcham¹ which conducted the tests on behalf of
the International Insurance Whiplash Prevention Group (IIWPG).
In
fact, Volvo was one of only two manufacturers to achieve top
'Good' scores for every model tested² thanks to its
supportive seats which have a fixed head restraint position to
ensure they are always in the correct position to offer the
best support, and the Volvo Whiplash Protection System (WHIPS)
that moves the entire backrest to absorb the impact during a
rear-end collision to help reduce the forces on the neck.
