AAFES Testing Text Messaging Savings

DALLAS – Hold the phone. For the next three months, the Army & Air Force Exchange Service is sending exclusive money saving offers to military shoppers’ mobile phones at six installations throughout the continental United States.

Dubbed the “AAFES Mobile Minute,” the new opt-in text messaging service delivers coupon codes that can be used at on-base fast food facilities, BX/PXs and even the Exchange Online Store at www.aafes.com. “Mobile Minute” offers scheduled for August include an extra $10 off the sale price of any Michelin or BF Goodrich tire, a free Burger King Kid’s Meal with purchase of any two regular adult value meals and four shirts laundered for the price of three.

“Unique coupons and offers sent by mobile text messaging not only deliver instant gratification, but also are one of the greenest avenues to reach potential shoppers,” said AAFES’ Chief Marketing Officer Mat Dromey. “This effort is recognition that the military community is shifting away from traditional paper coupons and responding to digital content.”

The following locations will be participating in the “AAFES Mobile Minute” test through October:

    • FT Lewis-McChord AFB

    • FT Hood

    • FT Bragg

    • Sheppard AFB

    • Ellsworth AFB

    • Carlisle Barracks

Authorized exchange shoppers at these locations can text an installation specific keyword (i.e. FTLewis; FTHood; FTBragg; Sheppard; Ellsworth and CarlisleB) to 95613 from their mobile phone to opt-in and receive AAFES text message offers (one a day, Mon. through Fri.). Within seconds the cell phone receives a bounce back message to confirm the user wishes to opt in. Once an “AAFES Mobile Minute” offer is received, shoppers simply provide a unique code (if redeeming the offer online) or show the text message to the cashier (when visiting “brick and mortar” locations) to receive exclusive savings.

AAFES Offers Aspiring Young Writers Opportunity for Great Prizes

DALLAS – School may be out for the summer, but the Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) has one more assignment for military dependents. The “Back-To-School Essay Contest” will give students in grades first through twelfth the opportunity to submit an essay of 200 words or less on “What AAFES means to me and my family.”

“Most military dependents have been shopping at AAFES for their entire lives,” said Chief Marketing Officer Richard Sheff. “As a result, we are anticipating some very good essays from these young students on what the benefit means both to them as well as to their families.”

The essay contest, which runs from June 27-August 31, will consist of four categories (1st-3rd, 4th-6th, 7th-9th and 10th-12th grades) with three winners from each category. First place winners in each category will receive a computer, second place winners will be awarded $500 savings bonds and $200 savings bonds will be issued to third place winners.

Complete rules, including release forms and specific instructions on submitting essays, are available at www.aafes.com under the Patriot Family Connection link.

Save Big at your Local Commissary Now!

Commissary Shoppers Now Save More than 30% on Their Groceries Commissary shoppers now save more than 30% on their groceries according to the latest market basket pricing survey conducted in October.  "This means that a commissary patron shopping for a family of four can save nearly $2,500 each year compared with off-base shopping," said DeCA'S director, Air Force Major General Robert J. Courter Jr. "This is a goal that we at DeCA have been after for a long time, and we made it.  Our shoppers will definitely benefit financially." The survey compared prices of virtually every Universal Product Coded (UPC) item sold in all commissaries in the 48 contiguous states.  DeCA conducted meat and produce pricing surveys at randomly selected commissaries as well as surrounding retail grocery stores. The actual percentage of savings is 30.4 percent.
