day with the wholesome goodness of whole-grain
oats, is now encouraging Americans to share
that energy for others through donations,
grants and volunteer opportunities.
Commissary
customers and employees have the opportunity
to earn a $500 grant to be used for a start-up
organization or a charity they may be involved
in that benefits their military community.
One
winner from each store band (a total of 14)
will receive a $500 grant to make their
project a reality. An overall winner
will be selected from the 14 winners to
receive the "Fuel It Forward - Go Humans

If
you can't make it to the commissary, make the
trip to January's On-Site Sales
You
can catch us on the road as we take commissary
goods to Guard and Reserve centers across the
United States for regional on-site sales.
Commissaries are conducting these sales out of
warehouses, aircraft hangars, armories, tents
in parking lots and even out of semi-trailers.
Although
the sales take place at Guard and Reserve
centers, we encourage all authorized customers
to attend these sales and enjoy savings
averaging 30 percent or more! We want to reach
out to authorized shoppers who have earned the
commissary benefit but cannot easily travel to
a commissary to shop on a regular basis.
A
couple of important notes:
-
Electronic Benefit Transfer card transactions
will no longer be authorized at on-site sales,
so
please take that into consideration when
planning your shopping trip.
-
DeCA's new $25 gift vouchers,
which
are available for purchase at any commissary,
may now be used for payment at on-site sales.
However, the vouchers are not available for
purchase at on-site sales at this time.
Get
your game on with good nutrition
Children
love to play Internet games, and promoting
healthy choices through gaming is a great
way to teach them.
With
childhood obesity continuing to rise, the
U.S. Department of Agriculture has created a
Web-based gaming contest that begins in the
spring of 2010.
This
challenge, open to entrepreneurs, software
developers and students, to design and
creative an educational game targeted for
"tweens" - children 9 to 12.
The
Web-based game will help motivate kids to
learn about healthy dietary habits and the
importance of eating more nutritional foods.
So if you are a game designer, or want to be
one, and possibly win a prize, go to Web
Games for Healthy Kids for the latest
details. Visit: Get

About
DeCA: The
Defense Commissary Agency operates a worldwide chain of
commissaries providing groceries to military personnel,
retirees and their families in a safe and secure shopping
environment. Authorized patrons purchase items at cost plus a
5-percent surcharge, which covers the costs of building new
commissaries and modernizing existing ones. Shoppers save an
average of more than 30 percent on their purchases compared to
commercial prices – savings worth about $3,000 annually for
a family of four. A core military family support element, and
a valued part of military pay and benefits, commissaries
contribute to family readiness, enhance the quality of life
for America’s military and their families, and help recruit
and retain the best and brightest men and women to serve their
country.
