May case lot sale promises more bulk for less

This year's May case lot event is shaping up to be the biggest spring sale yet with about 100 more products offered from the 260 available during last year's May event. Some 50-60 percent of the items are sold in club pack product assortments similar to the oversized or multiple products sold at commercial warehouse club outlets. Most commissaries hold case lot sales, but schedule them on different weekends throughout May. You can visit the comprehensive worldwide case lot sale page at www.commissaries.com/case_lot_sale.cfm to find out when your store is hosting a sale. Customers who live in regions with multiple commissaries can use the DeCA Web site to frequent all the sales in their area.

Every Day is Mom's Day at your commissary!

Every day, in commissaries around the world, mothers are shopping for their families. They often pay attention to everyone but themselves. The Defense Commissary Agency would like to lavish some well-deserved attention on the military mom for a change. Each store will highlight a special shopping area for military moms, a place where mothers can purchase discounted products to treat themselves or where their husbands, children and grandchildren can also do the honors. It's the commissary's way of saying thank you to a customer demographic that represents about 80 percent of daily commissary shoppers.

DeCA accepting commissary CertifiChecks through July 31

The Defense Commissary Agency will accept outstanding CertifiCheck gift certificates from authorized customers thanks to a plan approved by the Department of Defense. The approved plan allows DeCA commissaries to honor CertifiCheck gift checks through July 31, 2009. CertifiChecks Inc., the Dayton, Ohio, company that has issued the commissary gift checks since 2002, announced Feb. 26 on its Web site that it had ceased operations and was filing Chapter 7 bankruptcy. Since then, DeCA had worked non-stop with DoD officials to settle on a legal recourse it could offer its customers left holding the unredeemable CertifiChecks.

The Commissary, It's Worth the Trip!

- DeCA-

About DeCA: The Defense Commissary Agency operates a worldwide chain of commissaries providing groceries to military personnel, retirees and their families in a safe and secure shopping environment. Authorized patrons purchase items at cost plus a 5-percent surcharge, which covers the costs of building new commissaries and modernizing existing ones. Shoppers save an average of more than 30 percent on their purchases compared to commercial prices – savings worth about $3,000 annually for a family of four. A core military family support element, and a valued part of military pay and benefits, commissaries contribute to family readiness, enhance the quality of life for America’s military and their families, and help recruit and retain the best and brightest men and women to serve their country.
