Navy - Education

Naval War College
Naval War College's mission is to enhance the professional capabilities of its students to make sound decisions in command, staff, and management positions in naval, joint, and combined environments; to provide them with a sound understanding of military strategy and operational art; to instill in them joint attitudes and perspectives and to serve as a center for research and gaming that will develop advanced strategic, warfighting and campaign concepts for future employment of maritime, joint, and combined forces.

The Foreign Area Officer (FAO) Program is designed to train and develop commissioned officers to meet worldwide Navy requirements for officers possessing foreign area expertise. It ensures selected officers develop the skills required to manage and analyze politico-military activities with an in-depth understanding of underlying economic, social, cultural, psychological and political factors.

Academies

Established in 1845, the Naval Academy is the undergraduate college for the Navy that prepares young men and women to become professional officers in the U.S. Navy
 and Marine Corps.

Mission: To serve and support the United States, the Naval Service and The Naval Academy:

By furthering the highest standards at the Naval Academy;

By seeking out, informing, encouraging and assisting outstanding, qualified young men and women to pursue careers as officers in the Navy and Marine Corps through the Naval Academy; and

By initiating and sponsoring activities which will perpetuate the history, traditions, memories and growth of the Naval Academy and bind alumni together in support of the highest ideals of command, citizenship and government.

To provide an educational foundation in technical and leadership professionalism to support pipeline training and fleet requirements.

NROTC

The NROTC Program was established to educate and train qualified young men and women for service as commissioned officers in the unrestricted line Naval Reserve or Marine Corps Reserve. As largest single source of Navy and Marine Corps officers, the NROTC Scholarship Program fills a vital need in preparing mature young men and women for leadership and management positions in an increasingly technical Navy and Marine Corps.

The NROTC Program offers different types of scholarships based on an annual competitive selection process that considers such factors as high school class standing, college entrance test scores, extra-curricular activities and leadership qualities. Academic accomplishments in rigorous, technically demanding courses are especially noteworthy.
